Born in Minnesota and raised in Michigan, Michael Perkins never took a shortcut in his school years. More than that, he liked a challenge: he picked the toughest extracurriculars and moved from one hobby to another in his free time.
In college, he selected the most challenging major he could think of: Finance. But as practical as he was, he decided to back it up with a minor in Business Management.
Having earned his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Michael tried on many hats – journalist, researcher, business analyst – before settling on making a living with freelance writing.

Michael’s Key Skills

01

Persuasive and Descriptive Writing

Michael is well-versed in selecting the right arguments to convince his target audience and backing his claims with facts and research. But whenever descriptive writing is more appropriate, he painstakingly ensures even the most challenging concepts are easy to understand.

02

Finance and Business Management Background

Besides the intricacies of the FX market and business models, working towards his Bachelor’s degree taught Michael two things. First, no claim can be left unbacked in a high-quality text. Second, it’s possible to explain anything in layman’s terms.

03

Research and Fact-Checking

Michael has crafted multiple complex papers, from research papers to theses. Thanks to that experience, he excels at writing lengthy, research-intensive pieces. He leverages his research and fact-checking skills to make his texts as detailed and accurate as possible.

04

Proofreading and Editing

Sometimes, Michael spends as much time polishing off the first draft as he does writing it. From weeding out typos and grammar mistakes to improving transitions and the overall flow of information, Michael believes editing is as crucial as research.

05

Time Management

To meet all his deadlines, Michael simply had to master time management during his college years. This skill pays him well today: it ensures Michael can produce quality work even under tight deadlines.

06

Target Audience Understanding

Writing for peers with a degree in Finance isn’t quite the same as writing for high school or college students majoring in other fields. So, Michael always ensures he understands his target audience before creating an outline and doing research.

What Michael Brings to the Table

Gained during his busy college years, Michael’s extensive experience in academic writing means that many of his tips and tactics are tried and true. But that doesn’t mean Michael relies solely on his personal experiences; he knows they may not be as universal as some would think.
So, in addition to using his experience, Michael puts in the work to find out what the latest research says about the subject matter, be it studying for an exam or anything else. He also fact-checks every single claim to ensure he doesn’t relay outdated information on citation styles or paper requirements.

Michael’s Journey to EssayWriters

As a student, Michael didn’t think he’d pursue a career in writing, let alone as a freelancer. But after a brief stint as a business analyst, he realized that the field itself doesn’t make him feel fulfilled.
Instead, it was the writing that he was missing. And so, following a lucky encounter with a former classmate, he found out about EssayWriters – and decided to apply for an opening on our team.
Two years in, Michael is thankful for that encounter. Being an EssayWriters team member is never boring, and he can finally enjoy what he does for a living.
